More love for Parachute Panic

In this week’s episode both Kevin and I sung the praises of the new game Parachute Panic. It looks like we’re not the only ones who took notice of it- The Unofficial Apple Weblob (TUAW) also highlighted it in a blog post late yesterday, proving that they either also have a good eye for apps or they listen to The Appcast and agreed with our assessment of it. Either way, it’s definitely a fun game, so it’s nice to see it getting exposure elsewhere.

Gaming Wednesday: Blue Attack!

Blue AttackBlue Attack! ($1.99) – Imagine you are busy working at your desk and you suddenly get the urge to goof off and play a game on your iPhone. You’ve been through all the other games before and you’re looking for something with a bit more flare and refinement. That’s when you know it’s time for a good helping of Blue Attack! an accelerometer-based space shooter that involves defending your blue space station for the onslaught of evil Red invaders (in their obviously large red ships). Shoot, defend, turn and upgrade your way through each wave and see just how good of a defending pilot you really are by launching yourself into Blue Attack!, one of the most perfect games you can get on your iPhone or iPod Touch.

Gaming Wednesday: Tiki Towers

Tiki Towers Tiki Towers ($0.99) – Nothing says “I love you!” quite like a crate full of monkeys anxious to cross a poorly-constructed bamboo bridge. Thus, Tiki Towers is quite possibly the best Valentine’s gift you can give that special someone this coming weekend. Developed by RealArcade, the guys that brought you Diner Dash, Tiki Towers is a fun puzzle/construction game that’s sure to bring a smile to the face of anyone that has a remote sliver of a soul. Oh, and if you’re just looking for a World of Goo alternative for your iPhone, then it’s also time to pick up Tiki Towers.

Gaming Wednesday: Lumen

LumenLumen (Free Lite Version, $1.99 for full) Since Kevin is busy with work, I get to take Gaming Wednesday over again. Mwaahaahaahaa. The game I’m going to highlight on this week’s Gaming Wednesday is Lumen, a puzzle game that uses lasers, filters, and reflectors. A far cry from the majority of the games we’ve talked about, Lumen requires flexing your brain a lot more than your reflexes to solve a nearly endless variety of laser-based puzzles.

Gaming Wednesday: MazeFinger

MazefingerMazeFinger (Free)One of the most popular game apps that is still making the charts is this wonderfully simple and clearly addicting touch-based game from upcoming development house ngmoco. Though not squarely set in any particular category, Mazefinger is like a simple children’s puzzle game amped up on crack. Great graphics, clever pacing, and an incredibly awesome robot voice make this game one of the mainstays on my iPhone.

Gaming Wednesday: Space Deadbeef

Space Deadbeef

Space Deadbeef (Free)Though still climbing the charts of the iTunes Application Store, Space Deadbeef (Free) is one of the true iPhone gaming gems that feels like it has little visibility. A side-scrolling shmup (shoot’em up), Space Deadbeef combines beautiful graphics, great animation, and quick gameplay into one fun package that is reminiscent of great games like Einhander and awesome mech shows like Macross (or Robotech for some of you).
