The only issue is that there doesn’t seem to be any tutorial as to what you’re supposed to do in some cases. There are special bricks that you can hit with your head by jumping beneath them, but they don’t always seem to provide anything (unlike Mario where you’ll see the brick be hit, but it won’t yield anything). It’s a bit frustrating to not know that only some bricks provide a power-up. However, if you want a free platformer game that is simple, Omino should easily fill that void. There’s also a function that lets you search the events to find what you’re looking for. Calendars even lets you set text message reminders to ensure you don’t miss anything. If you primarily use Google Calendars for your calendar needs, Calendars is definitely worth looking into. One downside to it is the rather pricy $7 price tag on it, but it IS a very well designed app with a lot of features. We haven’t attempted to purchase anything through this app though, and I wonder if anyone would. The Facebook pages have Commenting and forwarding built-in while Twitter has a decent interface with the usual timeline, replies, messages, and even a Retweet option (to see just Retweeted messages). Angry Birds is a physics-based game in which you try to launch birds from a slingshot into buildings containing enemy pigs. The pigs have barricaded themselves in block houses and it’s your job to knock down the houses and hit the pigs as well. You’re allocated a set of birds each round, so you must hit all pigs in order to pass the round and progress. The different abilities each bird type has, as well as the fun simplicity of the physics engine and breaking stacks of blocks, are what really set the game apart from other physics-based games like Ragdoll Blaster. Now you can check out the free lite version before actually committing to the final game, which is very very recommended. We both love the game, but Sega is really dropping the ball with so many poor ports. Music game fans will want to check it out as it does get to more difficult levels and features a quick learning curve. However, I didn’t like how the Hard difficulty isn’t unlocked from the start since the Easy gets boring very quickly. Normally, these games are all about survival, but Guerilla Bob actually features levels for you to progress through, as well as upgrades that get picked up along the way and bosses with different abilities. It’s a nice change of pace for the genre on the iPhone given that other video games like Smash TV had this same presentation. Graphics are sharp, colorful, and cartoony while music is fine. You need to use the transports to go collect resources while you fire the gun to protect the base and the transports from invaders. It sounds a bit complex, but it’s all very simple and very casual. The controls are smooth and the presentation is understandable and easy to pick-up-and-play. Great 2D graphics, a large amount of upgrades to choose from, and an incredibly smooth framerate make this one of the best games I’ve played on the iPhone this year. It’s a short hour to play though, but I loved every minute of it. I cannot wait for the additional levels and features to be released in an update. Based on the original Song Summoner for the iPod, where the gimmick was that listening to your music would level up your characters, this sequel follows the same concept and employs a fully-polished tactical RPG at your fingertips. The whole game is so professional and so slick that we are just starting to forgive Square Enix for Crystal Defenders.
